Olive Oil, the all around good stuff!

Many of you are aware of the benefits of olive oil in cooking. But did you know that it also has an ancient and excellent use as a beauty aid?
You can make some skin care products out of inexpensive oil, like scrubs and dry skin relief.
It only takes 3 items to gain a whole bevy of benefits, AND, a friend of mine who is a nurse always warned me, that anything I put ON my skin should be food grade...,"If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin."
So, with that in mind, the 3 ingredients are;
1 quart olive oil(Pompeii works fine)
1 cup kosher salt
and about 20-30 drops of your favorite essential oils(I like Wild Oats "Harmony" blend myself).

To the quart of oil, add 20 drops of essential oils, shake and smell, add more as desired.
This blend is great for dry skin patches, bath oil, and for those pesky crowsfeet. Olive oil is almost as good as jojoba in absorption into the skin.
If you need a scrub, mix 1 cup of kosher salt and 1 cup of scented oil, keep in a sealed container, use to scrub your face, elbows, heels, whatever. Rinse off and enjoy the glow!

Morning, Ladies!
Cube-I was delighted to discover it myself. And you don't have to worry so much about ingredients, allergies and adverse reactions. Olive oil has a very long track record. LOL!
Angel-Good to see you here, welcome!

Olive oil on your skin? I imagine if you left it on your skin it would work as a tanning oil as well. LOL!!!

i feel like i've read or heard somewhere of a home tanning solution of instant coffee and olive oil...have you heard of it?

Nope, can't say I have. The only one I know about is the infamous baby oil and iodine concoction!
Jason-The olive oil soaks into your skin and really doesn't leave much residue.

But it would probably work...

I'm not worried. I was raised on olive oil. We used it long before it became the chic thing to use.

Cube-And a heck of a lot healthier for you than some of that stuff for sale out there.
Nanc-You are addicted to pasta...

You're right about this, tmw. A good friend who's a real redhead with redhead skin is fifty-nine and has a dewy complexion because she's added a little olive oil into moisturizer and applied it to her face twice a day for years. Her face is dewy.

Well, you have to figure that the ladies around the Mediterranean have been using it for millenia, time to take note!

as you well know, my son, the amateur alchemist, is always looking for some new mixture - i'm going to have him experiment with olive oil and instant coffee and try it out on me and i'll gladly show the result regardless of the outcome!

Someone once tried telling me that baby pee is good for your face. Ain't that something.

Steve-:rolling of eyes: It's along the same lines as those hair and skin products that use placentas, for crying out loud! How revolting!
At least olive oil is edible and a fruit!
