1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
1/2 cup white sugar
2 packets active dry yeast
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Stir water, 1 tsb of sugar and yeast together until dissolved. Add the olive oil and the salt. Stir in the flour and the remainder of the sugar until well blended. Let dough rest for 10 minutes.
Using a floured surface take golfball sized pieces of dough and roll them into a 5inch long tubes.Connect the ends with a twist and set aside on a cookie sheet.
Heat your oil to 350 and fry the donuts about 15 seconds on each side or until carmel brown.
Set on a paper towel to cool.
For icing I use 1/4 cup of sugar, whipped into 1/2 cup of half and half or cream for glazed. You can just use chocolate syrup or cake icing if you have it.
Just dip the top of the donut into the icing and give it a twist.
