PetsMart

I don't know if the rest of you have PetsMart stores in your area, but the ones here in the Cincinnati area are INFESTED with small brown bugs. I've checked two local stores; both were the same. This leads me to believe that their distribution hubs are infested, and it is not an individual store problem.

I have bought two bags of bird food and one bag of dog food. Both were infested; I WAS FURIOUS that I fed that to the bird! The dogs are hardy, but the cockatoo... GRRRRR!!!!

I've been using a small, indie feed store since; not quite as convenient, but very clean.

If 'yall have pets and a PetsMart, be VERY careful. Also, my job has provided me with 'insider info' that PetCo has the same problem, but worse.

grain weevils?

this is a job for supertmw!

careful or they'll get into your grains and dried goods - they could also be moth larvae.

Dried bay leaves! Put them on shelves with your dry goods...go to Penzey's Spices and order a 1/4 lb. bag of bay leaves for about what you would pay for 2 jars with 3 or 4 leaves at the store!

I don't know what the heck they were, but I always put the bird food in the fridge, which killed them.

The dog food goes into it's own 40lb tupperware-type container in the basement, so that wasn't a problem.

I emailed Petsmart and have yet to get a reply. I also emailed the bird food company simply to give them a heads-up. They have promised to take it up with PS and also to replace the bird food.

The bay leaves aren't a bad idea. After seeing the bags and then scoping out the PS, I think they are VERY infested. The bay leaves are a definite for my home, but any product from PS is likely contaminated from the get-go; best to avoid if at all possible, IMO.

O.T...has anybody noticed more fruit flies coming into the house with their newly bought fruit?
I swear they're from China and are releasing some evil potient into our air! LOL

But, this is the first year we've had this, and it's been ALL SUMMER LONG. SO weird!

I haven't noticed that, Z. I wonder if it is regional, or if I've just been lucky?

we have fruit flies from april until the temps go below 60 so i cannot really say - i do know that we buy so many fly strips, traps, and set bug bombs off galore - you'd think they'd disappear from one year to the next.

Definitely moth larvae. I got them in my corn meal once.

Like we don't have enough trouble, we have to import fleas from China

The last items I bought from PS were an autofeeder and an autowaterer for the cats. I've never bought any food from Petsmart.

I buy birdseed from Sam's club and dog & cat food from Publix. Never a problem.

right, DDude..! And it's potion, not potient..what's the matter with me?!
brooke..what's weird is this is the very first year I've had them every single time the fruit comes in the door.
it's not that bothersome, but you wonder if the grocers are letting in other stuff that is more bothersome....

**Shudder**

The PetsMart highers sent me an email saying it is the Indian Meal Moth.

I don't think so. Those ARE in the stores, but these bugs are different.

nanc said...

are they giving your money back?

Brooke said...

Not exactly. They said I could return the unused portion for a refund.

Yeah, right. I threw the stuff outside when I found the bugs!

I'm glad nothing else in the house was infested, or they'd darn well be replacing every scrap of HUMAN food in the house.

I've found a couple of those little bugs around, but I think they were carried in, not that they'd bred. I sprayed the carpet with some bug killer I had left over from when the dogs got fleas anyway, just to be safe.

Man, I hate bugs.

write to their corporates and tell them a boycott is brewing...that'll get you your money back AND a lifetime supply of something!

more bugs?

I'm going to figure out who does the agri feed control in this state and report them. I do plan on letting them know so.

Brooke said...

After I get done blogging. Heh. I am going to find out about reporting PetsMart.

However, the bird food company itself, Pretty Bird, had promised on Monday evening to send out a replacement bag separate of PetsMart, and it just got here via UPS a few minutes ago, and included a HUGE jar of cook-able bird treats as well! I would NEVER spend the kind of money a jar like that costs!

This feed company rocks!

They want your business, so they are doing business to provide a service, not rip you off! Stick with them, and if I ever get a bird, I'd look for their products!
That's excellent pr!

Where is PETA when you actually need them? Finally they could be useful and they are no where to be found.

Karma-They are too busy trying to buy up the SeaWorlds and turn all the animals loose in the wild...idjits!
